Antonio Gil was a Gaucho, yeeeha!!! He had a scandalise affair with a sexual beast of an older, wealthier widow. When the head of the police, who was also in love with the widow... (love triangle is so Argentinan) found out, he accused the tough gaucho and his mighty moustach of robbery and then tried to kill him.
So old Gil ran away like a pansy to the army, but when he returned…
The quick as a fox policemen caught up with him in the forest, so he tortured him and hung him from his feet from a tree (head rush!). When the jealous policeman was just about to kill him, "Gauchito" Gil said: "Your son is very ill.... If you pray and beg me to save your child, I promise you that he will live. If not, he will die".
But the policeman didn't care for his shit talking so he chopped his wee head off by cutting his throat. That was January 8, 1878.
When the policemen went home, his child was very ill... (cue music) din din diiinnnn
Frightened, the policeman prayed to "Gauchito" Gil for his son. And afterwards... guess what happened, just like a hollywood movie his son miraculously got better. Legend has it that "Gauchito" Gil had healed his murderer's son (what a man! mighty mighty good man)
So the least the policeman could do was to give Gil's body (and his head to) a proper burial, and so he built a tiny shrine for "Gauchito".
In the north of Santa Fe, where I am! The middle of nowhere! You can spot these fancy pants red shrines of Gauchito Gil as you zoom along the roadsides throughout Argentina so you can have a wee prey.
But why is it red? dead red??? Attractive....
